# Business credit check

A fast vetting summary of a business: registration status, adverse events, principals and turnover trend.

A fast business vetting check. It matches a business by name or registration number, then returns a short report covering registration status, adverse events, a summary of principals and turnover data. Use it to pre-screen a business before onboarding, or as a quick fraud indicator during an application.

{% hint style="info" %}
Previously listed as *Business Credit Score*.
{% endhint %}

## How it works

One request matches the business and returns the report. A business that cannot be matched comes back as a valid *No match* result, not an error.

## What it returns

A match status and the matched business (registration number and name). Where matched: registration status; core business details (entity type, registration date and description); a principal summary (number of directors, and how many have debt review, judgments or defaults); a turnover trend (most recent financial year, and whether revenue is rising or falling); and a business-level adverse summary (business rescue status, and defaults, judgments or possible judgments against the business).

## Inputs required

A company name or registration number. Providing both improves accuracy. Trading name, a prescribed purpose and your own reference are optional.

## Data source

Commercial credit bureau data.

## Consent and permissible purpose

You must confirm on each request that consent has been obtained. See [Consent and permissible use](/product/overview/how-it-works/consent.md).

## Channels

Portal and API. For request and response detail, see the [API reference](https://developer.fraudcheck.co.za/commercial-service/credit-and-financial-risk/quickvet).

## Outcomes

Match or No match, with the summary report when matched.

## Turnaround

Near real-time, typically under 5 seconds.

## When to use it

Pre-screening a business before opening an account or extending credit, quickly confirming a company exists and is actively registered, or checking for judgments, defaults or business rescue at the point of application.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.fraudcheck.co.za/product/products/screening/credit/business-check.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
