# Individual credit score

Combines bureau data and fraud indicators into a 0–999 score and one Accept, Review or Reject decision.

Combines credit bureau data with fraud indicators to produce one risk classification and a score from 0 to 999 for a South African consumer. Use it as a quick decision input during onboarding, loan origination and account opening, instead of running several separate checks.

Previously listed as *Credit Score*.
{% endhint %}

## How it works

The person's identity is matched at the bureau first, and the scored report is then retrieved. Both steps usually complete in a few seconds.

## What it returns

A final risk score, a risk category (Green, Amber or Red) and an overall classification suited to automated decisions; fraud indicators (SAFPS listing, deceased status, an employer-fraud match and protective verification); and adverse information (defaults, judgments and debt review status).

## Inputs required

The person's ID number, first name and last name, and a prescribed purpose for the enquiry. Middle name, date of birth, sex, cell number, email and employment details are optional; employment details improve the fraud signal.

## Data source

Credit bureau data combined with fraud indicators.

## Consent and permissible purpose

You must obtain the data subject's consent and declare a prescribed purpose for the enquiry on every request. Credit information may only be accessed for a permitted purpose, and the duty to have one stays with you. See [Consent and permissible use](/product/overview/how-it-works/consent.md) and the guide [Credit checks and prescribed purposes](https://developer.fraudcheck.co.za/guides/credit-checks-and-prescribed-purposes).

## Channels

Portal and API. For request and response detail, see the [API reference](https://developer.fraudcheck.co.za/consumer-service/credit-and-financial-risk/credit-score).

## Outcomes

* **Classification**: Accept, Review or Reject.
* **Risk category**: Green, Amber or Red.
* **Score**: 0–999.

## Turnaround

Near real-time, a few seconds.

## When to use it

Making one Accept, Review or Reject decision during onboarding, scoring loan applicants and account-opening requests, or combining credit and fraud risk into one step. Use [Individual credit check](/product/products/screening/credit/individual-check.md) when you need account-level detail rather than a decision.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.fraudcheck.co.za/product/products/screening/credit/individual-score.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
