# Business watchlist: basic

Screens a company against sanctions, crime and financial-crime lists in three coverage levels.

Screens a company against sanctions, crime and financial-crime watchlists held in Fraudcheck's watchlist database.

## How it works

Choose the variant that matches your compliance requirement. Inputs and results have the same shape across variants. Results can be retrieved again later. A Review or Reject outcome is a valid result, not a failed request.

## Variants

| Variant   | Coverage                                                                                                                            | Typical response |
| --------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------- |
| Lite | FIC Targeted Financial Sanctions and UN Consolidated Sanctions | Under 3 seconds |
| Crime     | Crime and most-wanted databases                                                                                                     | Under 3 seconds  |
| Extensive | A broader AML dataset covering sanctions, PEPs, adverse enforcement actions and financial crime lists. Includes everything in Lite. | Under 5 seconds |

## What it returns

An overall result and a match count, plus for each match: the source watchlist, the list name and source link, the matched entity's name and known aliases, associated countries and addresses, identifiers, sanctions programme details and a match confidence score. Extensive also includes phone numbers and email addresses where available.

## Inputs required

The company's registered name. A registration number is optional and improves match precision.

## Data source

Fraudcheck's watchlist database, including FIC Targeted Financial Sanctions, UN Consolidated Sanctions, and crime and most-wanted lists.

## Consent and permissible purpose

You must confirm on each request that consent has been obtained. See [Consent and permissible use](/product/overview/how-it-works/consent.md).

## Channels

Portal and API. For request and response detail, see the [API reference](https://developer.fraudcheck.co.za/commercial-service/aml-+-watchlist-screening/watchlist-lite).

## Outcomes

Accept, Review or Reject. See [Results and outcomes](/product/overview/how-it-works/results-and-outcomes.md).

## Turnaround

Near real-time: under 3 seconds for Lite and Crime, under 5 seconds for Extensive.

## When to use it

Fast first-pass sanctions screening before a full AML check, periodic re-screening of business customers, detecting links between a business and listed criminal entities, or broader AML onboarding coverage for higher-risk segments where Lite or Crime alone is not enough.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.fraudcheck.co.za/product/products/screening/watchlist/business-basic.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
