# Individual watchlist: comprehensive

Screens a person against sanctions, PEP and adverse media sources and adds a risk rating.

Checks a person against international sanctions lists, PEP databases and adverse media sources in one request, and returns a combined outcome and a risk rating. Use it when you need adverse media and a separate risk rating alongside watchlist coverage.

Previously listed as *Comprehensive Watchlist Screening*.
{% endhint %}

## How it works

International sanctions lists, PEP databases and adverse media sources are searched in one pass. Because of the adverse media search, it takes noticeably longer than [Individual watchlist: basic](/product/products/screening/watchlist/individual-basic.md).

## What it returns

An overall result and a separate, finer-grained risk level; whether the person is a PEP, is sanctioned or has adverse media; match counts by category (PEP, sanctions, adverse media and general watchlist) and in total; and each matched record with its match type, source list, jurisdiction, description, confidence score, and the dates the match was recorded and last updated.

## Inputs required

The person's ID number, first name, last name, date of birth and sex. Middle name, a business purpose and your own reference are optional.

## Data source

International sanctions lists, PEP databases and adverse media sources.

## Consent and permissible purpose

You must obtain the data subject's consent before running this check, and confirm on each request that you have it. You keep the proof of consent; Fraudcheck records that you confirmed it. See [Consent and permissible use](/product/overview/how-it-works/consent.md).

## Channels

Portal and API. For request and response detail, see the [API reference](https://developer.fraudcheck.co.za/consumer-service/aml-and-watchlist/comprehensive-watchlist-screening).

## Outcomes

* **Result**: Accept, Review or Reject.
* **Risk level**: Low, Medium or High.

## Turnaround

Typically 30–60 seconds.

## When to use it

Running sanctions, PEP and adverse media screening together on one person, detecting negative news that warrants enhanced due diligence, or producing a separate risk rating for compliance records.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.fraudcheck.co.za/product/products/screening/watchlist/individual-comprehensive.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
