# Business bank account verification

Confirms a business bank account exists, is open and belongs to the named company.

Verifies a business's bank account by checking the submitted company and account details against the bank's records, and returns a pass or fail breakdown covering registration, ownership and account status.

## How it works

The check runs live against the bank's records. The result is returned as a report recording the submission details (reference number, request date, client name, user and user email) alongside the verification outcome.

## What it returns

An overall *Verification passed* result (Yes or No), backed by Yes or No results for: account found, registration number match, company name match, account open, account open for 3 months, accepts debits and accepts credits.

## Inputs required

Company registration number, company name, bank name, branch code, account number and account type.

## Data source

The account holder's bank, queried live.

## Consent and permissible purpose

You must obtain the data subject's consent before running this check, and confirm on each request that you have it. You keep the proof of consent; Fraudcheck records that you confirmed it. See [Consent and permissible use](/product/overview/how-it-works/consent.md).

## Channels

Business bank account verification is available through the portal only.

## Outcomes

A full pass returns Yes on every check. If any check fails, that check and *Verification passed* return No. If the account is not found, every later check returns No.

## Turnaround

Near real-time.

## When to use it

Confirming a business bank account exists and is open before paying it, validating that the company name and registration number match the account holder, and confirming the account can accept debits and credits before relying on it for payments or collections.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.fraudcheck.co.za/product/products/verification/bank-account/business.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
